Night Screamer's Calvin Lever brings the metal to 'My Classic Album'

Calvin Lever; guitarist with UK metal band Night Screamer joins ‘My Classic Album’ in July to talk about his chosen classic album ‘Metallica’, the self titled 1991 album by the legendary metal band!

The oft named ‘Black Album’ saw Metallica move on from their thrash metal roots in to a more accessible heavy metal sound that would catapult them to world stardom. Calvin and Night Screamer are both heavily inspired by the Black Album and as one of Mike’s all time favourite albums this one is an episode not to be missed!

Damon Johnson chooses ‘Synchronicity’ as his Classic Album

Guitarist and singer Damon Johnson will appear on the June 1st edition of ‘My Classic Album’ as he joins Mike to talk about ‘Synchronicity’; the final album from the Police!

Damon has had a hugely successful career performing in bands such as Thin Lizzy and Black Star Riders. Both The Police and Sting’s solo career have had a huge impact on Damon as you’ll hear on the podcast!

Damon’s appearance will be online in June!

The latest episode of ‘My Classic Album’ is now online! Mike is joined by Nell Bryden to talk about Aretha Franklin’s iconic breakthrough album ‘I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You’. Aretha’s 10th album boasts performances from the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section and huge Aretha classics including the title track, ‘Baby Baby Baby’ and of course her career defining ‘Respect’.

For the first time in the history of the podcast, ‘My Classic Album’ will be dedicating an episode to a movie soundtrack. American singer Savannah Pope chose the soundtrack to the 1975 musical ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ as her classic album and Mike jumped at the chance to cover it on the show! Singer songwriter Nell Bryden will appear on the May 1st edition of ‘My Classic Album’ chatting with Mike about her chosen classic album ‘I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You’ by the legendary Aretha Franklin!

A Radio 2 favourite, Nell has recently released her EP ‘Soundtrack to Little Wing Part 1’ which is directly influenced by Aretha’s breakthrough album! Hear our conversation in full in just a few weeks!

Welcome to the new look ‘My Classic Album’ website!

After feeling inspired by the ‘My Classic Album’ page on Podnose, I decided to make the jump and completely redesign www.myclassicalbum.co.uk! I really think the new design looks great and is much easier to navigate and find episodes. Not only that but you can listen to episodes right here on the site rather than be linked to another webpage!

The myclassicalbum.co.uk domain may take a few days to change over but this is the site that will be updated from now on!

Canadian rock singer Will Black will join Mike on the April 1st edition of ‘My Classic Album’ to talk about his chosen classic album ‘Born To Run’ by Bruce Springsteen!

Springsteen’s 3rd album released in 1975 is highly regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time and boasts such classics as ‘Thunder Road’, ‘Jungleland’ and of course the iconic title track.

‘Appetite For Destruction’, the outstanding debut album from Guns N’ Roses will receive the ‘My Classic Album’ treatment on a future episode of the podcast!

Skunk Manhattan, leader of Texas based rockers ‘A Good Rogering’ chose the album which introduced the world to Axl Rose and Slash and boasts huge songs such as ‘Paradise City’, ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ and ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’.

After celebrating 30 years of ‘Hysteria’ by Def Leppard in 2017, Tigertailz and Midnite City vocalist Rob Wylde returns to ‘My Classic Album’ to discuss another album close to his heart.

The underrated 1987 album from KISS ‘Crazy Nights’ is Rob’s album of choice this time and I must say I really enjoyed chatting with Rob again and getting a second chance to cover a KISS album on the podcast.
